The History of US Aircraft Finance: Celebrating National Aviation History Month

The month of November is National Aviation History month—an entire 30 days dedicated to “exploring, recognizing and celebrating America’s great contributions and achievements in the development of aviation” (Source: US Census Bureau).

The development of mechanical flight has evolved greatly from the earliest attempts at gliders to today’s ultra-modern, high-tech aircraft models. Here at US Aircraft Finance, we focus our efforts on offering financing options for those looking to purchase their very own General Aviation aircraft, new or used, searching for refinancing opportunities, or hoping to upgrade an airplane with new technology, such as updated avionics to support ADS-B, or mechanics, such as a new engine.

As an independent full service, national direct aircraft finance company, we are dedicated to providing great rates and terms to our customers and top it off with unparalleled customer service.

Some may wonder what entices us to serve the aircraft community with our financing options. During this month of National Aviation History, we are going to tell our history and provide some insight on how we developed our customer-focused, service-oriented values.

The History of US Aircraft Finance

At USAF, we take pride in providing top-shelf customer service for our clients. Our mission to provide these personalized services all began with Owner Dave Savoie and reaches back to when USAF was only a dream.

Dave Savoie, an Air Force veteran, served  as a KC-135 pilot refueling fighters, bombers, and the infamous SR-71 (the Blackbird) during the 60’s in the Viet Nam war. He also served and lived with  the Special Forces (Green Berets) in a forward location (Kontum) of Viet Nam. There he accumulated nearly 1,000 hours of combat flying time in the O-1 Bird Dog as a Forward AIr Controller. Later he joined the Rhode Island Air National Guard as a Command Pilot and Chief of the Command Post where he was also flew, as aircraft commander, the C-130 Hercules. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service.

During his dedicated service, Dave earned a number of medals, declarations and ribbons. They include the following:

  • Distinguished Flying Cross
  • 14 Air Medals for Meritorious Achievement While Participating in Aerial Flight
  • Air Force Commendation Award
  • National Defense Service Medal
  • 2 Vietnam Service Medals
  • 3 AF Longevity Service and Award Ribbons
  • Armed Forces Reserve Medal
  • Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon
  • Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device
  • Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal

Dave’s experience in the military honed his passion for service, and his knowledge of financing and love of flight created the perfect cocktail to inspire a new business: US Aircraft Finance..

USAF was born from Dave’s dream to provide customer service in a field he loves. Working in the banking industry for nearly 30 years, Dave found it difficult and frustrating to provide the level of service he knew his customers deserved, because something would always get in the way.

The nuances of the aviation financing industry can make it difficult to communicate the correct financing information from the bank to the customer in a timely manner. There are so many details that go into aviation financing that a customer’s experience can be muddled by including too many parties.

USAF is a direct aircraft finance company with a dedicated team working with customers to serve as their knowledgeable aircraft finance guides. It is our goal to help customers navigate the complex financing and loan industry, and to provide easy, prompt, customized service for every customer. Dave and the team at USAF have developed a base of fiercely loyal customers due to our commitment to customer service. Our same-day application and approval process and our ability to close a financing agreement the following business day is praised by all of our clients and is unmatched within the aircraft finance industry. Banks are not often organized to be so timely, and at USAF our state-of-the-art loan processing capability sets us apart.
