Aviation Insurance
Liability Coverage
Aircraft liability insurance protects you in the event
you are liable if your aircraft injures another or
damages their property. There are primarily two major
methods in structuring aircraft insurance liability
coverage:
Combined single limit (smooth limit or level limit)
– This is the broadest aircraft insurance coverage
available - injury and property damage are combined
under a single limit of liability per occurrence. For
example, with a $1 million combined single limit
liability, $1 million would be the total available to be
paid to injured parties and property damaged combined.
This form of aircraft insurance coverage is typically
more costly, but provides the broadest aviation
insurance coverage.
Combined single limit (sub-limit) – This aircraft
insurance coverage is limited as to what an injured
passenger/person can recover. For example, a common
passenger sub-limit coverage provides for $1 million
combined, sub limited to $100,000 per passenger. In this
case, while the total available to be paid for injured
parties and property damage is $ 1 million, the
individual passenger limit would be $100,000. This form
of aircraft insurance coverage is typically less costly.
